Matthew Cossey

Chief Executive Officer

Matthew Cossey commenced as Chief Executive Officer of CropLife Australia in January 2011. He leads the organisation’s strategic management and advocacy on crop protection, agricultural biotechnology and industry stewardship in Australia.

Prior to joining CropLife, he served as a senior executive and a member of the Executive Leadership Team for one of Australia’s leading defence and technology companies, Raytheon Australia.

Before entering the private sector, Matthew was a senior official and campaign director for a major political party in the ACT, a position he held for more than six years. He was Chief of Staff and Defence Adviser to the then Shadow Minister for Defence from 1998 to 2002 and before that worked as political adviser in the Senate for three years.

Matthew worked in several positions in the Commonwealth public service prior to taking up his positions at Parliament House and undertook his tertiary studies in Canberra and Sydney.  He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Agricultural Biotechnology Council of Australia and previously served as a Director on the Board of AFL Canberra for four years and the CLC Group Board for seven years.

Brad Williams

Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Chief Financial Officer

Brad Williams joined CropLife Australia in June 2014 bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise in financial and corporate governance matters.

Prior to joining CropLife, Brad was a senior member of one of Australia’s leading professional services firms, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), having commenced his accounting career as a Graduate Auditor with the former Canberra based WalterTurnbull.  His role within PwC saw Brad responsible for financial statement audits of various Commonwealth Departments and private sector clients, which has provided him with a robust understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards, including their application to the not-for-profit sector.  In addition, Brad has undertaken a vast array of internal audit assignments across a number of the larger Commonwealth Departments, specialising in risk management, control framework assessment, business process improvement and statutory compliance.

Brad is responsible for the professional administration of CropLife’s financial management services, as well as those of a number of aligned entities to whom CropLife provides such services.  As CropLife’s Company Secretary, Brad ensures the application of best corporate governance frameworks and processes across CropLife’s administration and operations.

A former professional basketball player with the National Basketball League, Brad is credited with having played for high-profile NBL Clubs such as the West Sydney Razorbacks, New Zealand Breakers, Canberra Cannons and Sydney Kings.

Brad holds a Graduate Diploma from, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia together with a Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting from the University of Canberra.

Gary Robb

General Counsel

Gary Robb joined CropLife Australia as General Counsel in June 2014, bringing almost 4 decades of experience and expertise in the law.

Prior to joining CropLife, Gary was a Canberra solicitor in private practice for more than 35 years. After founding Gary Robb and Associates in the early 1980s. Gary became State Practice Group Leader of the Canberra office of Slater & Gordon after they acquired his practice in 2008. In 2011, he was appointed Managing Director of Dixon Advisory Law Canberra, where he worked with until joining CropLife. Although he has practiced mainly in the litigation area, Gary has experience in most areas of the law, in particular corporate governance and commercial disputes. Gary is also a nationally accredited mediator.

A passionate North Melbourne supporter, Gary has been actively involved in the local AFL scene as a player, coach, administrator and sponsor for the past 45 years.

Alastair James

Alastair James

Policy Manager – Agchem Regulation and Stewardship

Alastair James joined CropLife in October 2013.  Alastair has a strong agribusiness, public policy and regulatory background, having worked as a farmer, senior agronomist and Branch Manager within the rural merchandise sector.

Alastair represents the interests of CropLife and its members in the development of policy relevant to the management of agricultural chemical products and champions CropLife’s stewardship responses in respect of these products.  He also coordinates maintenance of CropLife’s Resistance Management Strategies in association with CropLife’s Resistance Management Review Groups.

Prior to joining CropLife, Alastair held a variety of significant public sector positions, including most recently the position of Director – National Residue Survey (Animal) with the Department of Agriculture, having previously held the corresponding position within the plant portfolio, as well as the position of Director – Plant Export Operations.

Alastair holds a Bachelor of Applied Science – Agriculture.

Osman_Mewett

Osman Mewett

Policy Manager - Crop Biotechnology

Osman Mewett joined CropLife in December 2011 and brought with him extensive knowledge of the plant science regulatory system.

Osman leads CropLife’s activities relevant to the Crop Biotechnology Sector.

Prior to joining CropLife, Osman held the position of Scientist – Biosecurity and Farm Analysis Branch with the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences. Prior to this appointment, he held number of senior scientific, regulatory and policy positions with the Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator. He has authored a number of journal papers, government reports and publications relevant to his areas of expertise.

Osman possesses a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University.

Jaelle Bajada

Manager - Public Affairs and Research

Jaelle commenced as Manager Public Affairs and Research at CropLife in January 2014 bringing a strong background of more than 13 years in the areas of public relations, stakeholder engagement and marketing communications.

Jaelle is responsible for CropLife’s external and internal strategic communications and analytical content, tools, strategies, documents and activities. Jaelle also supports the Chief Executive Officer in developing and delivery of research, policy and public information in support of CropLife’s focus areas.

Prior to joining CropLife, Jaelle held the position of National Communications Manager with the National Carbon Capture and Storage Council. Prior to this position, Jaelle held senior public relations roles within federal, state and local government spheres. She has recently worked on some of the most high-profile federal government policy communication campaigns including climate change, immigration, and broadband and cyber security.

Jaelle holds a Masters of Marketing Communication, Bachelor of Arts (Public Relations) and an Associate Diploma of Business – Public Relations. She is a certified PRINCE2 practitioner project manager, a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and a member of the Australian Science Communicators Network.

Judith Old

Executive Office Manager and Executive Assistant

Judith Old commenced as Executive Assistant with CropLife Australia in January 2006, having previously held this position with CropLife’s predecessor, Avcare.

Judith has significant experience at a senior administrative support level including Executive Assistant to the Executive Director of the Master Builders Association of the ACT, as well as the Mayor and General Manager of the then Goulburn City Council.

Her responsibilities include executive and administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors, as well as oversight of the daily operations of the CropLife Secretariat.

Dominque Doyle

Dominique Doyle

Group Senior Accountant

Dominique Doyle commenced with CropLife Australia in November 2013.

Dominique has a strong background of in excess of 25 years in the area of applied accounting and strategic management, having undertaken varied roles from accrual and budgeting, through to funds management accounting, as well as strategic and project management roles.  Her in‑depth experience has been gained across roles ranging from within government agencies, including the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, as well as large private entities, including Australian Ethical Investments and the Australian National University

Dominique possesses a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Canberra and is a member of CPA Australia.

Tanya Elliott

Secretariat Support Officer

Tanya Elliott joined CropLife in April 2013 in the position of Secretariat Support Officer following many years within the hospitality industry. Tanya has also held similar positions within the real estate sector, as well as with major Brisbane based property development firm, the Anthony John Group.

Tanya is CropLife’s Receptionist and also provides support to CropLife Secretariat operations and overall corporate functioning, as well to the Secretariat’s finance team.
