The National Wine Show celebrates excellence in Australian wine

    12 June 2026

As a sponsor of the National Wine Show of Australia, CropLife Australia and its members are proud to support and celebrate an industry that contributes more than $51 billion to the Australian economy and supports over 200,000 Australian jobs.

Since 1975, the National Wine Show has helped elevate Australian wine labels from local favourites to internationally recognised brands. Entry into the Show is reserved for wines that have already achieved gold or silver medals at qualifying wine shows, ensuring a highly competitive field and a rigorous judging process.

The Prime Minister’s Trophy for Champion Wine of Show was awarded to Xanadu 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon. The Len Evans Memorial Trophy for White Wine of Show was awarded to Evans & Tate 2023 Single Vineyard Chardonnay, while the James Halliday Trophy for Red Wine of Show was also awarded to Xanadu 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon.

CropLife Australia Chief Executive Officer Matthew Cossey congratulated all winners, particularly Xanadu on its Champion Wine of Show success.

“Congratulations to all trophy winners and exhibitors who contributed to another exceptional National Wine Show,” Mr Cossey said.

“Xanadu last won the Prime Minister’s Trophy 13 years ago, also with a cabernet sauvignon, making this year’s achievement particularly significant.”

This year’s Show attracted a record 1,085 entries, including 83 first-time exhibitors. Of the 23 trophies awarded, nine were won by wineries from South Australia, seven from Western Australia, three from Victoria and two from New South Wales, highlighting the diversity and strength of Australia’s wine regions.

The trophy winners represented the breadth of the Australian wine industry, from small family-owned vineyards and medium-sized wineries to some of the country’s largest wine producers.

“Australian wine has been earning international acclaim since the nineteenth century,” Mr Cossey said.

“Today, that same spirit of innovation continues to drive one of Australia’s most successful agricultural industries.”

“From the Barossa Valley to Margaret River, winegrowers rely on crop protection technologies to manage pests and diseases that threaten vine health, grape quality and vineyard productivity.”

“Consumers see – and enjoy – the finished bottle. What they don’t always see is the year-round effort required to manage vineyard threats such as powdery mildew and phylloxera. Crop protection products are among the many tools available to winegrowers to help safeguard vine health, maintain fruit quality and deliver the consistency for which Australian wine is renowned.”

Mr Cossey said CropLife Australia was proud to support the people behind one of Australia’s most celebrated agricultural industries.

“With around 6,000 grape growers and more than 2,000 wineries across Australia, the plant science industry is proud to support Australian wine through innovation and stewardship programs that help keep vineyards healthy, productive and sustainable for generations to come.”
