Tomato – Grey mould

Crop(s) Tomato
Disease(s) Grey mould(Botrytis cinerea)

Resistance management strategy for:

Group 2  Dicarboximide; and
Group 7  Succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHI).

Guidelines

Group 2 (Dicarboximide)

  1. Tank mix Group 2 fungicides with a protectant such as chlorothalonil. Avoid applying two Group 2 fungicides in succession, unless tank mixed with a protectant.
  2. Restrict dicarboximide applications to periods when Botrytis infection pressure is high and minimise the number of applications; as a guide, do not apply more than two to three per crop per season. Maintain regular, prolonged intervals without exposure to dicarboximides.

Group 7 (SDHI)

  1. Use a maximum of two applications of products containing an SDHI fungicide per season, preferably in mixture. If used alone, apply SDHI fungicides in strict alternation with effective fungicides from a different mode-of-action group. Do not apply consecutive SDHI sprays; because positive cross-resistance occurs between all members of the SDHI group, rotating to a different SDHI does not manage resistance.

CropLife Australia’s Resistance Management Strategies provide a guide for crop protection product rotation through product groups. The strategies are a useful tool that supports farmers’ adoption of resistance management. All crop protection products must be handled and applied strictly as specified on the product label or APVMA permits.

These Resistance Management Strategies do not replace product labels. They are a guide only and do not endorse particular products, groups of products or cultural methods in terms of their performance. It is important to check with the Australian regulator’s (APVMA) product database for contemporary information on products and active constituents. The database can be sourced through www.apvma.gov.au

The information given in this strategy is provided in good faith and without any liability for loss or damage suffered as a result of its application and use. Advice given in this strategy is valid as at 22 July 2026. All previous versions of this strategy are now invalid.
